Check out this really cool project our amazing volunteer Jodi is doing.
She wants to take, print and give family photos to En Via families who currently don’t have family photos – and a means to keep their precious memories this way.
Help fund this project to provide family photos for free.
Jodi has been volunteering with us since October of last year. Some of you may have been on a tour with her – she’s the New Zealander with that weird bottom-of-the-world accent…
During her time with us, she began taking photos of the women, and the reaction she got when she handed the women their photos was incredible….which led her to create this photo project: Corazon de Luz (which translates to “heart of light”).
Jodi said she realized that the women we visit on Fundación En Vía tours seldom have photos displayed in their houses. When she asked several of them why, they explained they don’t have cameras — and even if they did, there is nowhere in town to have photos printed. Many families have never ever owned a family photo.
Jodi‘s plan is to set up a photo “studio” in each community Fundación En Vía works in (Teotitlán del Valle, Abasolo, Tlacochahuaya, Diaz Ordaz, San Miguel del Valle & Santo Domingo Tomaltepec) with one designated day in each town.
During the designated day in each community, the “studio” will be open to families for photos, taken by Jodi, and family information documented by other volunteers. After printing the photos in Oaxaca, the team will return the following week to hand out photo packets. The volunteers will also email an electronic copy to those people with access to email.
The project team would like to provide one large (6×8”) and three smaller (4×6”) prints to each family, making the cost of each family photo packet 16 pesos (around US$1.23, CAD$1.35, AUS$1.33 or NZ$1.44). Labour for the project would be provided by Jodi and other volunteers at no cost.
The project’s goal is to provide photo packets to 600 families, costing approximately US$750.
Please Help the Corazon de Luz team!
If you would like to help Jodi and the Corazon de Luz team provide family photos to our communities, you can donate via this link using Paypal or a major credit card.
If you would like to make a direct bank deposit from Australia or New Zealand, please email volunteer(at)envia.org so the team can provide local bank details.
And of course, if you are in Oaxaca, you can also just drop into the En Via office office, on the corner of Niños Heroes and Avenida Juárez that opens to a beautiful garden. Just ask someone in the front office to direct you to us.
The project team will be collecting donations for approximately 6 weeks, from now until mid-July 2014.
We will keep you updated on Corazon de Luz’s fundraising progress, and how the photo studio days go in this blog. Stay tuned!
We are so excited to support Jodi and the other volunteers with this wonderful project!
